VELMA LAKES: DESOLATION WILDERNESS
By: Tim Mena • timgmena.com
When it comes to abundant fall colors California may not be Vermont, and it may not even have an Autumn at the moment, but if you are lucky and know where to look you can find a splash of yellow and orange out there. Head to the Sierras!
Desolation Wilderness, in the Eldorado National Forest offers a little peek into Autumn. Yes, leaf peepers may scoff at the miniscule amount of color, but sitting at lower Velma lake in the good company of an old friend, his dog, and a few trout (none of which liked what I had to offer) is not a bad way to take in the season.
